6 Common Electrical Rewiring Problems In Your Home.

We often take Electrical Rewiring or the electricity in our homes for granted. This is even more apparent during a severe storm and we lose power. Even though the power is out, we still reach for the nearest light switch or our TV remote. Then, when the lights are back on, we realise how thankful we are for it. This is also true when something goes wrong with our electrical such as flickering lights, an electrical short or fire or any other electrical wiring related problem in our home. It can become annoying and dangerous to have lights or outlets not work properly.

If you have recently had electrical work done in your home, or you tried a DIY electrical project and it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would (another reason not to do your own electrical repairs) there are some common electrical rewiring problems that many homeowners face. Let’s take a look at some of them now:

Frequent Electrical Surges- frequent electrical surges can cause your lights to grow brighter and cause damage to your electrical appliances. These electrical surges are often caused by lightning strikes and damage to power lines, faulty appliances and even improperly wired electrical upgrades.

Dips In Electrical Power- sags or dips in your home’s electrical power supply are often caused by a faulty device connected to your power grid, but it can also be caused by substandard electrical wiring materials drawing more power when used.

Light Switches Or Outlets Not Operating Properly- if after a home rewiring project, your light switch or outlets don’t operate properly, it could be related to a faulty switch or faulty or improperly installed wiring.

Circuit Breaker Tripping Frequently- certain appliances use more power than others. These can include your microwave and hair dryer. They will often trip a breaker, resulting in a loss of power to that circuit. If you find that you are constantly having to reset a particular breaker, there could be a fault in the wiring.

Light Bulbs Burning Out Often- if you find that your light bulbs are burning out more frequently than they should, there are some common reasons for this:

  • Wattage Is Too High
  • Insulation Is Too Close To The Light
  • Bad Wiring On The Circuit
  • Bad Wiring On The Mains

Recessed Light ‘Goes Out’ And Comes Back On- if your recessed lighting seems to ‘go out’ and come back on even after replacing the light bulb, you might be using too high a wattage on the bulb, or the insulation in the ceiling is too close to the bulb causing it to overheat.
